Five That Were Wise, by Rose Datoc Dall, is a portrayal of the five wise virgins from the Parable of the Ten Virgins in the Book of Matthew, Chapter 25 in the New Testament. Five were wise and five were foolish. The five who were wise took “oil in their vessels with their lamps” while the foolish took “no oil with them.”
