TRAVELING WITH OIL COLORS to be TSA compliant:

Click to see an example on DREAMATOLLEPERRY.COM, of how to pack and label your paints to pass TSA inspection.

1. CHECk-in your bAGS WITH OIL colors
-
Check-in your luggage with oil paints.
-
Do NOT pack paints in carry-on.

-
WARNING: Do NOT pack or carry-on SOLVENTS or OIL MEDIUM. Plan to BUY them at your DESTINATION.

-
To be safe, do NOT pack palette knives in your carry-on. Pack them in checked bag.

2. PACK OIL COLOR TUBES IN PAINT BOX
-
Wrap tubes individually in bubble wrap. Prevents them from puncturing each other.
-
Place wrapped tubes in a sturdy CONTAINER or PAINT BOX.

-
Label OUTSIDE of PAINT BOX in large letters: “ARTIST VEGETABLE OIL COLORS.” (Linseed oil, sunflower or safflower oil are typical main binders and are vegetable oils.)

-
Do NOT label as “OIL PAINTS” (implies flammability and may be confiscated.)

3. INCLUDE PRINTED MSDS SHEETS (MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET) WITH PAINT BOX
-
Print MSDS from each paint brand in your box.

-
Put MSDS SHEETS in a Ziploc bag, tape it to outside of PAINT BOX. Make it EASY for TSA to recognize and access. Write “MSDS SHEETS” in bold letters on top of the folded sheets or bag so it is in plain sight.
